Summer Evening Shoot

On Saturday,
Simona and I went to Chicopee Hill to take some pictures. The sun was just starting to go down over the city, and the lighting was incredible. What a beautiful evening. Here are a few pictures of Simona.

You are such a beautiful girl - inside and out.
I love you.

Rae Thomas

Another first: Assemblage
A sculptural composition consisting of an arrangement of miscellaneous objects or found materials.

This was a fun assignment. Our theme had to be two opposing sides conflicting. I chose to do right-brain vs. left brain. My idea for this theme came about when I purchased the pencil box at the Antique store in St.Jacob's. On the inside, the boy who once owned the box [I'm assuming] engraved his name multiple times inside the lid - Rae Thomas. As soon as I opened the box, and saw his name stamped and written all over it, I immediately wondered what kind of boy he was, and what sorts of things he used the pencil box for. Was he creative? Did he draw, or write stories? Or did he like solving math problems, or examining bugs? So I decided to have the two sides of the brain colliding within the box. I also made sure that the box could still be closed, to symbolize the mystery of Rae Thomas - I will never really know who he was, or what he was truly like.

My First Clay Bust.

This is Alley,
my beautiful partner. Although, it doesn't look completely like her, haha. But a pretty solid first attempt. I would love to revisit clay busts again for sure.

The finish
is acrylic paint, layered from raw umber to unbleached titanium white. After painting on the layers, I sanded the entire bust down, to bring out the underlying brown, and the natural white of the clay.

Spring Formal

Last night was Woodland's Spring Formal, and I was able to bring Kate, Maryna, and Zach along from Eastwood. What an amazing night! I really enjoyed introducing them to all of my beloved Woodland friends. We had a great time :)

It was so wonderful to see everyone again.
I love & miss you dearly Woodland.

Rain, rain..

What a gloomy day.

Pair up a Genocide Conference with cold, windy rain showers all day long, and I'm pretty sure things can't look much gloomier. Although, going to the conference today was quite informative, and very impactful. It was inspiring to see what young people are doing to raise awareness, and their voices, about the things going on in Darfur. So despite the sombreness of the day, we were still able to leave feeling quite hopeful and optimistic.

After the conference, I stepped out onto the busy, puddle-covered streets and took the bus to William's, where I met up with Jon for coffee. It was an enjoyable time, and for those couple of hours, I actually didn't mind the rain :)

Also, thanks so much Jonny O. for the sweet letter in the mail, it made my day.
Woodland's Spring Formal is tomorrow, and I cannot wait :)
Updates coming soon,
Emma

Back to Blogging?

Nine months later,

I have returned to this blog, realizing that I never really followed through with it after creating it last August. I am quite disappointed in myself for my lack of motivation, because these past nine months have actually been quite productive and eventful, and I have accumulated albums and albums of cherished photographs. But now, I would actually love to start blogging, and sharing the projects that I have been working on. My sudden inspiration for this is mainly because of Eastwood, and all of the creative projects that we have been doing in my Visual Arts class.

Another big factor of inspiration for this blog has to do with an amazing journey that I will be embarking on this summer. I recently got a job as a Nanny, and I will be travelling to France for four weeks with a family from Waterloo, as they study at a French Institute in Nice. In my free time, I am hoping to do quite a bit of drawing, painting, and photography. Villefranche-Sur-Mer, the quaint town that we will be staying in, is situated in a beautiful bay, along a beach & harbour, and I am so excited to explore the area. During my trip, I would also like to keep up this blog, and just share with my friends & family the things that I have been doing, the places I have been going, and the art that I have been creating. I hope to post at least one entry each day.
Can I do it?

In the meantime, I would love to make it a habit to write every once in a while, and share some of my creative projects, as I said before. It will be interesting to see what sorts of things are in store for the rest of the semester, and it will also be fun to write about my preparations for France.

À bientôt,
Emma
